How we started…
Hello,
My name is Adam Degler and for the last 26 years I have loved everything about wildlife.
I grew up in a small town in rural Pennsylvania, spending weekends at my grandparent’s farm which was the highlight of my childhood. My grandfather used to raise pheasants there years ago, and thus the farm was named “Pheasant Run Farm”.
I am proud to name our business after the many years I spent at that farm, out in nature, which no doubt contributed to my fascination with animals.
I decided to attend college for Electro-Mechanical Engineering as I was always good with numbers. I graduated and quickly entered the field. I spent a few years as a controls engineer, a position which included a lot of travel. It had its ups and downs but generally I liked it. An unfortunate trip to Egypt caused a lot of self-reflection and consideration of what I wanted out of life.
In the few months following, I had a good job opportunity with some family and decided that it would be worth waiting for. Due to the circumstances, it would be about 6 months before I would be able to start. For those six months I wasted the first few being bored out of my mind before I decided I needed something to do. I began volunteering 2-3 days a week at a local wildlife rehab center (Where I still volunteer to this day), which quickly re-ignited my passion for working with animals.
Then the thought came to me… “What could I do to make this my job?”
So, I began investigating becoming a licensed rehabber myself. Unfortunately one of the requirements in Pennsylvania is to have facilities prepared before you are able to get a license. My plan pivoted, I wasn’t ready to throw in the towel quite yet, I spent time listening to podcasts and several of them were wildlife and conservation centered.
I realized my future may lie in wildlife removal! Living in a semi-rural area run ins with wildlife are very common. I also knew I could shape my knowledge of handling animals into a way to help people.
Thus, Pheasant Run Wildlife Services was born. With much support from my friends and family I quickly applied for my NWCO license in the state of Pennsylvania and began setting up a website and applying for an LLC.
I really hope I am able to help lots of people and animals in my future as a wildlife control operator, I look forward to seeing how my business evolves and grows!
Thanks for reading!!!
